July 21st, 2014, New York, New York: Heading into the fourth round of the 2014 Global Rallycross Championship, Hoonigan Racing Division’s Ken Block was in search of his first podium of the season and looking to shake his string of bad luck thus far this season. Fortunately for Block, he found it, with a third overall podium finish.

After winning his two heats during Saturday’s racing, Block entered Sunday’s event sitting in a good position to advance to the finals. Taking second in his semi-final, he advanced to the final, sitting on the second row of the grid. However, the final had back-to-back red flags on the first two attempts to start the final. On the third attempt, the final was able to be completed, which saw Block sitting fourth overall once the racing was over. However, due to an illegal service performed on the #77 car (which had placed 2nd overall) during one of the red flag re-starts, that car was disqualified, moving Block up the ranks into 3rd overall and picking up 40 points in the championship standings in the process.

“This weekend’s race was interesting,” said Block. “Obviously we had two full re-starts during the final, which definitely throws off everyone’s rhythm a bit in terms of their racing, so that was unfortunate. And, while I didn’t finish where I wanted to, I’m glad that the officials got the calls right in the end and upheld the rulebook. I’m stoked about coming away from this event with my first podium of the season and I’m looking forward to racing again next weekend in Charlotte.”

Block’s next event is GRC Charlotte at The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Be sure to tune in and watch on NBC Sports.
