Hoonigan Racing Division driver Ken Block capped off his insanely busy SEMA week with a dominant win at the final round of the 2013 Global RallyCross Championship, GRC Las Vegas. The win also secures Block as third overall in the 2013 Championship standings.
Having qualified third and putting down the fastest lap of the day during Wednesday’s day one heats, Block entered Thursday’s day two heats and final feeling confident and seeking redemption for last year’s GRC Las Vegas (Block was leading the final last year when his car caught fire, forcing him out of the race). And, redemption was found. Block won his second round heat, beating out DC Shoes teammate Travis Pastrana to earn himself a first row spot for the final.
In the final, Block put down a great launch going into turn one in second place behind fellow Ford driver Tanner Foust. Unfortunately for Foust, he had jumped the start and had to pull into the penalty box, allowing Block to race by and take the lead. From there, Block continued to open up his gap on the remainder of the field, all the way to the checkered flag.
“I’m stoked with this result,” said Block. “All season I’ve been plagued by terrible luck and finally, here in Las Vegas, it all came together. I drove well today, my team did an amazing job with my Ford Fiesta ST RX43 and my luck held up. I put down great times in practice and managed to win both of my heats. To be able to win the final race of the year, secure third overall in the championship and go out on a high-note is an incredible feeling. I’d really like to thank all of my fans and sponsors for their support this season as well. I know there have been some ups and downs, but we’re ending the year on a major up!”
With the win in Las Vegas, Block’s 2013 competitive schedule comes to a close. Block’s next big event is the global debut of his Gymkhana SIX YouTube video, being launched November 11th at 6 AM PST via the Need For Speed YouTube channel.
