Having competed in Munich, Germany, at X Games RallyCross just 11 days earlier, Hoonigan Racing Division’s Ken Block showed up to the next round of the Global RallyCross Championship in New Hampshire and very quickly established who the front runner for the event would be.

Qualifying in first place 1-second ahead of the rest of the field, Block demonstrated that both he and his Ford Fiesta ST RX43 racecar were ready to race during Thursday night’s battle. Block then advanced directly from his heat to the final by winning it with a commanding lead over the other racers in the heat. Unfortunately, the domination came to an end in the first corner of the final when Block got a solid start off of the line, only to have it all for naught when he was pinched out going into turn one. He eventually finished the final sitting 5th overall.

“It’s frustrating to have the final result that I do after having an amazing qualifying session and first heat,” said Block. “Unfortunately, that’s just how RallyCross goes. That first corner is a total crapshoot. Sometimes you get lucky and get through clean, sometimes you get pinched. Either way I feel that I drove well today and that our car is running strong. Hopefully our luck is more favorable next weekend in Tennessee.”
