After being first fastest during all practices, qualifying second overall and dominating both of his heats, Hoonigan Racing Division’s Ken Block headed into the final of Global RallyCross Atlanta determined to come away from this round of the championship with a big win, finally.
Unfortunately, Block’s streak of bad luck reared it’s ugly head once more this season when a generic motorsports hose clamp (used to mate the exhaust to the turbo) failed right off of the starting line, leaving Block with zero boost and no power to compete with.
“It’s really frustrating,” said Block. “Continually this season I’ve come out and laid down fast times in practices, qualifying sessions and heats, only to have bad luck in the first corner of these races by again and again being punted off course by other competitors. And now, today, having a random mechanical failure sabotage my attempts at winning this round? It sucks, and that’s how motorsports goes sometimes, but it’s not easy to stomach. Hopefully this streak ends before the season does.”
Block’s next competitive event is Rally America’s Ojibwe Forests Rally, taking place August 23-24 in Minnesota.
